Hello, fellow gamers Chew here, ready to blow your mind and senses with another ripping review.  This month’s game of choice is from a genre that I enjoy getting immersed in from time to time and that genre is Fantasy Role Playing.  This genre is something that people would stereotype with the geeks and the weirdoes from high school.  And, to that I say kiss my Heinie.  Now enough of my ranting believe me you don’t want me to start on a rant I’m here to do a review and that’s what I’m going to do.  Dragon Age Origins is a game designed by BioWare the same people who brought you Baulder’s Gate several years ago.  The name Origins comes from the idea that BioWare is heading back to their roots. The game offers a unique new feature called Origin Stories that shapes the way the world sees you and the way you will see the world. Each origin determines the player’s motivations, which in turn shapes his or her experience, and renders a unique beginning, path, and ending to the game. The games also has three difficulty settings which allow the game to us the AI differently and allow the friendly fire settings (yes there is friendly fire hehehe) to do more or less damage depending on above said settings.  To some of you who have played PRG’s before you might ask if you can use any weapons.  The answer to this question is yes characters can use most weapons in Dragon Age Origins; however, there are some minor restrictions.  These restrictions are that only mages can use staves, and most weapons require a minimum strength or dexterity to use.   So this means that it’s how you build your character’s stats that will directly affect what kind of equipment they will be able to equip.

Now before I finish off let me give you one more piece of tasty info.  You read earlier the mage.  Does that mean spells?  Oh, yes it does and something about these spells that you are all going to like is that in Dragon Age: Origins the introduction of “spell combos,” which is where you can chain together different spells to create a unique effect.  Let’s see for a quick example, if you were to cast a Grease spell on a target to slow them down, followed by a Fireball, you could create a special burning effect with some devastating results. So that’s enough to want to see the spell action taking place.  I know I would.  And, with that last bit of info but, let me say one more thing about this great and exciting game.  Go out and pick up a copy for which ever system you’d like.  I can guarantee that it won’t let you down and you’ll be satisfied with the graphics and the control of the game as well.  I know I didn’t mention graphics this time around.  I decided that on this game the attraction is the story and game play the graphics are great but the story and play is so much better.  So that’s why I centered on the game’s story and play instead of the aesthetics of the graphics.  So don’t be mad or hate me for it just know that I chose this way because it’s my job to pick out the right games for you to read about and play so enough of that this is Darth Chew signing off again till next month.  Keep playing and I’ll keep reviewing.
